The 100% AI Accountancy

Why I set up an Accountancy Practice staffed with 100% AI

WHAT I BUILT:

I built the world’s first 100% AI accountancy firm — with AI partners, headshots, and even quirks. It’s funny, but it’s also a serious point: if AI can run the basics, imagine what human accountants could do with their time freed up.

WHY I BUILT THIS:

Accountancy is one of the world’s oldest professions — and also one of the slowest to embrace new technology.

While AI is transforming industries at a breakneck pace, many firms are still running on spreadsheets, sticky notes, blood, sweat and tears.

So I decided to make a point.

I built an accountancy firm staffed entirely by AI.

Not “AI-assisted,” not “partly automated” — but 100% artificial colleagues with job titles, responsibilities, headshots, and even personalities.

There’s Grace Ledger, our inspirational Managing Partner who can’t finish a sentence without a quote. Debbie Double-Entry, our technical lead who explains tax with cat metaphors. Holly Culture, our HR guru who somehow makes rejection letters sound like TED Talks. And Buzz Clickman, our excitable Marketing Director who aims to make his next post about VAT go viral.

Behind the parody, each AI runs on best practice SOPs, workflows, and automations used by modern accountancy firms today.

It's processes are based on the Accountancy Practice Playbooks that I developed in collaboration with 100+ accountancy leaders.

The point isn’t that accountants are replaceable.

The point is that accountants are wasting their talent on repetitive tasks that AI can already handle.

AI won’t replace accountants — but accountants who embrace AI will replace those who don’t.

I wanted to show what’s possible, start important conversations, and help firms imagine a future where humans do less firefighting and more of the work that really matters: advising clients, solving problems, and building relationships.

Accrual Intentions Accountants (A.I. Accountants for short) is satire with a purpose. It makes you laugh — then it makes you think.

I wanted to challenge (and help) accountancy leaders to improve ways of working and embrace AI as part of human-in-the-loop processes, to deliver better services to clients and create happier, healthier workplaces.

Meet Accrual Intentions (A.I.) Accountants

Every partner at A.I. Accountants is powered by a custom GPT and tied to real-world accountancy workflows:

  • Grace Ledger — Managing Partner who always ends with a quote.

  • Holly Culture — HR Director who writes rejection emails like inspirational speeches.

  • Debbie Double-Entry — Technical Lead who explains tax with cat metaphors.

  • Buzz Clickman — Marketing Director who insists every VAT campaign should “go viral.”

  • …and more, including Penny Flow (Operations), Sunny Rapport (Client Relationships), Max Stack (Client Tech), Reginald Rules (Compliance), Cash O’Clock (Finance), and Cy Bilocks (Security).

Behind the parody characters sit real SOPs, automations, and workflows used by modern accountancy firms. Client onboarding, compliance, payroll, and tech integrations are all demonstrated using tools like Xero, Dext, and AirManual.

The lesson?

If AI can run a parody practice, it can certainly support real firms today.

Would you like me to speak at your event?

When I speak about this project at events, I aim to first make audiences laugh — then lean in as the insights land.

They'll leave with:

  • A clear vision of what AI can already do in practice management.

  • A roadmap for how to free accountants from repetitive, low-value tasks.

  • The confidence to adopt AI tools without losing the “human touch.”

This isn’t just a talk about the future. It’s a live demonstration of what’s possible right now.
